Zoo Miami is reachable from Miami International Airport by rideshare, taxi, or public transit.

The zoo is best experienced open at 10 am. Plan your visit accordingly — Miami's midday sun in summer can make outdoor experiences uncomfortable from late morning through mid-afternoon, while the same hours in winter are often the most pleasant.

How to get there from MIA

The simplest option from MIA is rideshare or taxi — both pick up on the lower (arrivals) level of any terminal. Public transit reaches this area through a combination of Metrorail and Metrobus, but the connections add up — for trips this far from MIA, a rental car or rideshare is usually faster and not much more expensive than transit for two or more travelers. If you're staying for more than a half-day in Miami, renting a car at the Rental Car Center opens up the entire region.

What to do while you're there

Plan to spend at least two to three hours at Zoo Miami to do it justice. Zoos like this one in Miami reward unhurried exploration — you can speed-walk the highlights in 45 minutes, but the texture of the place comes through when you sit, eat, and watch the local rhythm.
