How to use Taxi (Flat Rate Zones)

For the typical Downtown Miami destination, expect about 20–30 minutes from the time you board to the time you arrive. South Beach destinations add another 15 to 25 minutes depending on the MacArthur Causeway traffic, and PortMiami add about 10 minutes. Trips to Coral Gables, Doral, or Aventura vary widely with traffic — plan accordingly during weekday rush hours (8–10 AM and 4–6 PM).

Tips for using Taxi (Flat Rate Zones) at MIA

Look for the dedicated ground transportation signs in the lower (arrivals) level after baggage claim. MIA uses color-coded signs — yellow for taxi, blue for shuttles, white for hotel courtesy vehicles, and orange for rideshare. Follow the signs all the way to the curb or pickup zone; don't stop to wait inside the baggage hall, as service vehicles don't enter the building.

For first-time visitors arriving on long-haul flights, allow extra mental bandwidth on arrival — MIA's curb is busy, with multiple lanes of traffic and frequent loud announcements. Have your destination address ready in your phone before approaching the curb, and be prepared to confirm it clearly with your driver. If you've never used taxi (flat rate zones) before, take a quiet moment in baggage claim to set up the relevant app or look up the fare zone.

Accessibility

All ground transportation services at MIA are required to accommodate passengers with disabilities. Wheelchair-accessible taxis and rideshare vehicles are available on request — taxis can be flagged at the lower-level taxi stand, and rideshare passengers can request "WAV" (wheelchair accessible vehicle) options through their app. Metrorail trains and platforms are fully accessible, with elevators at every station including MIA Central. Hotel and cruise shuttles vary in accessibility; contact the operator in advance to confirm.
